Here's the kind of guy Michael is. I was part of an online group Michael was also involved in. Reaching out to him to seek guidance on approaches to address some unresolved mental trauma, Michael happily greed to meet (for no charge) online. Michael recognised my financial situation and went above and beyond to provide multiple sessions (2 hours long each) for free out of his spare time, just because he could. Because he has a big heart. In these sessions he worked with a caring, intelligent and personable demeanour. You instantly feel at ease in Michael's presence, and there's no doubt he knows his stuff. One thing I'd absolutely condone him on is his strong listening skills. During tender and challenging processes that may sometimes tap into deeply rooted trauma, it can be easy to get lost in the weeds. Unclear, confused and dismayed. But then to have them rehashed to you in a clear, compassionate and understanding manner that does not whatsoever alienate you and only seeks to resolve more deeply is sometimes quite alarming. It's like - wow, this guy really cares, and is ruthlessly willing to support you to the depths of resolution. As far as outcomes from working with him, Michael gave me tools that go well beneath the superficial layers of resolving challenges. In my experience, I've been practicing deep meditation techniques for years - yet something felt missing. I was overlooking and resisting aspects of my experience. Michael helped me reconnect to these repressed areas, integrate them and understand them. Straight away, I noticed my demeanour shift as I took the techniques out into daily life. I could quickly notice more connectedness with my family and with myself. It was like parts I had been denying were finally having a voice which went to the level of the body and was very grounding and reassuring. I found myself being sort of shocked at how effective the techniques introduced were. Couldn't recommend him more!

They were the first to help me during my lowest point and it is an honor for them to not only aid me, but also get to know me personally. It has been over two years since I have been cared for by them and I can't imagine another psychiatrist to guide me. Because of them, I was able to discover DBT and complete the course, and the help of medications is what aided me to take action. They work with you financially and appreciate good-faith effort (literally even just a dollar towards the outstanding bill), and they never toss a ton of medications at their clients that result in over medication and are attentive to balancing side effects to benefits for each individual's psychological and physiological situation. Reception is extremely kind, understanding, and personable, and as is the psychiatrist of course! Great team, newer to the Salem-Keizer psychiatric team, but don't let that undermine them and their care.
