My child was having struggles with learning, so we had them evaluated by Orchid. After the evaluation, we never received an actual diagnosis. The practitioner only recommended study coaching. Was this because our child had a learning disability? ADHD? Poor study skills? Anxiety? We had no idea. When I asked for the written documentation of the evaluation, I was told that’s not usually done and would cost extra. I have never heard of a patient encounter not being documented, and I'm not sure that's above-board. When I asked the study coach what my child’s diagnosis was, they said they didn’t know and directed me back to the practitioner. The practitioner told me they also didn’t know the diagnosis and would need more time with my child to give one. However, no such time was scheduled or suggested. My child never saw them again. Then what are we treating with study coaching? We proceeded with that coaching for months with no improvement before stopping. Overall, we were very disappointed with Orchid’s approach. My child saw a practitioner only once, and the impression we had was that they gave a blanket recommendation of study coaching in order to sell that service. It was never explained to me what specifically was going on with my child and why that was the appropriate treatment for them, and there was zero follow-up to see if the coaching was actually working. We left feeling that Orchid’s sole goal had been to get the money from us for the initial evaluation and coaching, and that there was very little intention of identifying the actual problem, let alone actually helping our child with it.
