I was not a patient here, but my ex was, and the care he received had a devastating impact on me and our relationship. During a period of mental health instability, our relationship fell apart in a way that left me feeling gaslit, emotionally harmed, and completely unsupported as a partner. There was no sense of accountability or concern for the damage being done to someone closely involved in the patient's life. Mental health care should not ignore the real consequences it has on others. Based on my experience, I would urge partners and families to proceed with caution.
