Not every crisis is loud. Sometimes it walks in quietly, bleeding invisibly. You’d think a counselor would know that. I came to this practice during one of the most destabilizing periods of my life. I chose a therapist based on his credentials and areas of focus. What I got was surface-level detachment, no real presence, and the kind of canned responses you’d expect from a chatbot—not a trained mental health professional. I’m not naming names. Doesn’t matter. The larger point is this: when someone walks in raw, grieving, and barely functional, the least they deserve is someone who’s actually in the room with them. Therapy isn’t a performance. It’s not a checklist. And not all help is helpful. And one more thing: If you’re going to list LGBTQ as an area of expertise, make sure it’s not just because you skimmed a chapter in grad school or attended a two-hour webinar. If you’re not part of the community, don’t pretend you fully understand what it means to live in it. We notice the difference. We feel it immediately.

I have a long history of anger and irritation when provoked. This response has been helpful in some cases and destructive in others. It's also been damaging to me personally. I called Ron and he told me about his past history with the same issues. I thought, "This is the guy who can help me transcend my own negativity." I was right. He has helped me tremendously. He has a very kind approach. We are working on my PTSD from a violent childhood. His therapeutic approach has been so immediately effective, that I haven't had this problem since I've been seeing him! I've seen therapists for years and they barely moved the dial. Unsurprisingly, I have communication issues with my daughter. We very recently saw Ron for joint therapy. We were BOTH so impressed and grateful for how he helped us handle our conflict. We felt immediate relief and are going to see him a few more times so that we can learn better how to resolve our conflicts and manage our relationship. This man is a godsend. We both feel hopeful and are extremely grateful. I couldn't recommend him more highly.
