I brought my 7 year old here for ADHD therapy. After the initial visit, I was really encouraged and looking forward to seeing what tools he would gain from his appointments with his provider. Last night we had his first official appointment with her. He was in the office with her for the entirety of his appointment. She brought him to the waiting room and asked me to come to her office to speak. She started with, "That was rough..." She proceeded to tell me that she asked my son to draw 10 things that he likes. He drew 2 and said he was done and wanted the candy she promised him when he completed the task. She insisted that he draw more pictures so he drew 7 trees. She continued to push him to complete the assigned task and he wasn't able to. She told me he is manipulative and stubborn. She also told me that it will be a love/hate relationship between the two of them, "not from me, but for him." She also mentioned that she wasn't very hard on him during this appointment because she wants him to want to come back but that she will have to be more stern with him in the future. I was warned that there would probably be yelling by both of them at future appointments. My son is 7 years old and has been recently diagnosed with ADHD. We were coming to this clinic so that he could gain some tools with how to manage his ADHD and all that comes with that. What we received was an unmanageable task, no assistance in completing said task by the provider and an instant power struggle between provider and patient. It was apparent to me that the provider was frustrated by the patient for having the exact traits we were there to receive support for. When I called to cancel all future appointments this morning, I wasn't even asked why the reason for cancelling. I do not believe LSW on staff here is qualified to work with children and I am so angry at the treatment of my child and then the lack of care at the loss of a new patient when cancelling. I would not want to put my son in a negative situation like that so I want to make sure other parents are aware of the quality of care they should expect to receive. To the office, please do not reach out to me for any reason. I want nothing to do with any of you.

I came to be seen about 3 yrs ago, and it was my first psychiatrist experience. I had suspicion of ADHD from my brother who is a psychatrist, so went to this Dr. Desai and was told by her to go get a testing done by a psychologist for ADHD. Did that. Came back severe combo type and I had the documentation to prove it at the next appt at her office...... Dr. Desai readily dismissed it......she claims it was bi-polar......well..I'm not a psychatrist, but I followed the rules and got testing done for ADHD.....not bi-polar..HA! thinking possibly because she doesn't know enough about ADHD and her like many others mental health professionals are afraid to diagnose it? ....I did not understand the evidence/basis for bi-polar. My brother who is a psychiatrist said ADHD......not bi-polar. I think she just wanted to avoid diagnosing adhd because of the stimulants? Sidenote, I needed to cut back on drinking before any medication which she made clear....but even after that was cleared up and a non-issue, she was of no help in treating adhd - with medication management and brief talk therapy (or refer me to a therapist specializing in ADHD) after I followed her instructions to go get the adhd testing done.........its like i did my whole part and it wasnt simple and easy(a long process which I was willing to go through)....and then i come back and she just really wanted to chalk it up to bi-polar--why? ..... no evidence of that. I'd hope she does more to understand ADHD in female adults to understand the difference between the two disorders. They are definitley not the same. Some overlaps? Sure...but two disorders and treatment is different for each of course. So, anyways --- the whole experience was more of a PAIN and waste of time than it was any help/insightfulness. I hadn't been on stimulants my whole life. so it wasnt the end of the world if she didnt prescribe anything, it was just the fact that she didnt even contribute to helping weed/get down to the root cause of my overwhelm/executive function/emotional disregulation/losing things for my whole 29 years of life....nope just spend like 15 mins if that & chalk it up to bi-polar even though the patient is providing you with what you told them to get (an ADHD diagnosis).....silly. Dr. Desai was pretty rude as well over the portal when I pointed out that the portal message communication function was not working at one point, she didn't believe me at first. Kinda a bit too prideful for my liking. No thanks........... please take care and hopefully this review helps someone.
