Dr. Thurlow is at the top of her game. If you don't understand idioms, that means, “She's a top expert in her field.” If you are looking for an accurate, thorough assessment, and NOT just someone who will take your money and give you what you want or tell you what you want to hear (or not tell you what you don't want to hear) this is where you want to go. I wanted an accurate assessment no matter what the outcome. If you are seeking an assessment for anything, chances are that you're a nervous wreck already. I definitely am. I found Dr. Thurlow and her team to be patient and kind. They showed patience, respect, and understanding from the very beginning of the process. Dr. Thurlow listened and observed with 100% of her SOUL. I could feel it. Between her extensive credentials, experience, and expertise in the field of autism and conducting psychological assessments, combined with her genuine kindness, she drew an accurate portrait of who I am and what my needs are and aren't. As an autistic female, my past experiences had me prepared for abuse and I was quite surprised that I was treated with kindness. She was delicate and gentle with her non-judgmental final feedback report. I felt validated, heard, and was given feedback, even difficult feedback, in a caring way. This is worth what I paid and then some. Assessments are expensive. Do your research before you choose a diagnostician. There are a lot of really great ones in San Diego. I had narrowed it down to a couple of them and, in the end, I decided to go with Dr. Thurlow due to her credentials, most specifically her post-doctoral work at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Plus, her office is in La Jolla so I got to see the seals!

Dr. Thurlow is an extraordinary clinician and an even more remarkable human being. From the very beginning, her empathy, kindness, and deep understanding stood out in a way that made me feel genuinely seen and heard. Connecting with her throughout the diagnostic process was not only insightful but also truly affirming. She creates an environment that feels both safe and empowering — a space where you can show up exactly as you are without fear of judgment. I can’t recommend Dr. Thurlow highly enough. She is, without question, one of the most intelligent, compassionate, and radically accepting professionals I’ve encountered in the field of psychology. Thank you, Dr. Thurlow, for the dedication and passion you bring to your work. It makes all the difference, and I’m deeply grateful.
