Aloha! I’m a Kupuna (elder) living on the beautiful island of Oahu. I’ve lived with TRD, treatment resistant depression, for over 29 years. It felt like as I aged, navigating each bout of depression became harder. To be honest, I wondered how much longer I could hold on. But as a retired RN with over 40 years of caring for others, I knew I had to care for myself. I couldn’t give up hope. After finding Advanced Psychiatric Therapeutics I’m so glad I kept advocating for myself. During my first zoom consultation with Dr. Jeremy Roberts I could feel how much he cared. His compassion and kindness was evident. After the hard work that Kristen, one of the office angels, put in working with my insurance company, I was approved for Spravato. I’ve since had my 4th session in one of their cozy rooms and I can’t express how much better I feel. After years of working in the field of medicine I know quality health care when I see it, and the care delivered by Dr. Roberts, Kristen, Nicole and Sam at Advanced Psychiatric Therapeutics is top notch. I’m monitored closely by Dr. Roberts, Kristen and Nicole. They check on me frequently, making sure I’m in a good place. Walking in the office feels like walking in a friend’s home, there’s no “doctor office” vibe at all. The most important thing I feel is a sense of safety, knowing that I’m in caring and competent hands. Anyone living with TRD knows that it’s not an easy journey and perfection doesn’t exist. But to have my life back and to see a good future for myself is a true blessing. I am grateful that I have lived long enough to experience this hope and relief from the debilitating effects of depression. I think I can speak for my fellow travelers on this journey when I say, we learn to appreciate life’s simple pleasures in a special way that others may take for granted.
